CPRE Lancashire is sad to announce that we lost the “Force of Nature” that was Audrey Dawson in May 2018.

Born in the beautiful Lune Valley countryside in Lancashire, Audrey enjoyed a happy childhood in a wonderful farming community.  She joined CPRE Lancashire in 1973, volunteered for the South Ribble District Group and became a devoted Trustee.   She was recently awarded CPRE’s highest honour – the CPRE Countryside Medal – for dedicated service.

Audrey also held roles with the Hardy Plant Society, Lancashire Historic Gardens Trust.  She was a gold medalist at Southport, and won silver-gilt at Chelsea, flower shows.  Widow of Keith (deceased), aunt of Jennifer, Audrey was a friend to so many.  She was widely admired for her campaigning work and for her humour.

In June, we celebrated her life at service of thanksgiving at All Saints Church in Higher Walton with her family, friends and colleagues.

Audrey showed great passion and expertise in supporting local residents to oppose an unsuitable development plan for the difficult Brindle Road site.”  Martin Topping, Resident of Brindle Road Action Group.

Audrey will be fondly remembered by us.
