Peel Holdings' planning application for an exclusive golf course and executive home development on farmland in protected Green Belt was approved by Bolton Council but the decision has been called-in for the taking by the Secretary of State after a request from CPRE Lancashire and other local objectors.

CPRE Lancashire was disappointed that Bolton Council approved Peel Holdings application for a major housing development and exclusive golf resort in protected Green Belt with harm to Hulton Park Registered Park and Garden despite strong local opposition.

CPRE Lancashire engaged with Burnley’s Local Plan Team during the various stages of the Local Plan progression.  In accordance with CPRE policy we wrote responses querying the assumptions used for the housing and employment projections, and advocated that the Local Plan with lower housing and employment land requirements should be adopted to steer sustainable development in the future.  We successfully made recommendations for a number of housing and employment sites to be saved from Green Belt release.

Hooray, CPRE Lancashire is celebrating as local democracy saves the countryside!  Following a change in political leadership in Trafford in May 2018, two proposals for development on Green Belt protected land have been withdrawn.
